1 - Friendly Welcome

Hi, ___________. My name is Elly, I'm a design student. One of my assignment is to create an app then run a usability test. thank you for coming and helping me with this, I appreciate it!

Before we begin, With your permission, I'm going to record what happens on the screen and our conversation. The recording will only be used to help me to improve the app, it won’t be seen by anyone else.

❓Have you ever done a usability test before?

[No]

Okay, so I'll explain a little!

So when we're developing new designs or ideas, we get to a point where it's really valuable to get some fresh perspective on it. So we'll ask people to try to use the app that we're working on, so we can see whether it works as intended. That's what we're going to do today.

And because this is just a smaller school project, the session today should take no longer than 20 minutes.

During this session, I'll ask you some questions, but the first thing I want to make clear right away is that we're testing the app, not you. You can not do anything wrong here.

And the second thing is that later I'll show the app to you, and as you use the app, I'm going to ask you to try to think out loud: to say what you're looking at, what you're trying to do, and what you're thinking. This will be a big help to me. And please don't be shy about sharing any criticisms you may have.

You can ask me any questions you might have as we go along. But I might not be able to answer them right away, since we're interested in how people will do when they are by themselves. But for sure that we can discuss after we're done. If you need to take a break at any point, just let me know.
